Victims of a depraved foster couple who subjected vulnerable children to sickening abuse over almost two decades have demanded answers over their reign of terror.
Sandra and Andrew Harper, both 63, physically and emotionally abused five children at their Cairnbulg home in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, under the noses of social workers and took in dozens of youngsters during their career.
The majority of the abuse, carried out between 1985 and 2002, was inflicted by Sandra Harper – who forced one child to eat their own vomit and poured soap into their mouth. Victims of the pair, who are now all adults, spoke to the Record after they were finally brought to justice.
One man, who spent almost his entire childhood with the couple, said: “It was sickening when I saw them again in court. I was physically sick in the toilets.
“Seeing Sandra Harper and hearing her voice again takes you back to that place. Your heart starts pounding. Your mouth is dry. You feel scared. These are horrible people who have absolutely no accountability for what they’ve done and no shame.”
The couple were collectively found guilty of 10 charges after a two-week trial at Peterhead Sheriff Court last month. Sandra Harper repeatedly struck one boy on the head and body from the age of five, repeatedly rubbing his face in urine-soaked bedding and pushing him, causing him to hit his head on a wardrobe.
She repeatedly shouted, swore and uttered threats and offensive remarks at the boy over a period of 14 years. That victim said: “Local authorities need to open their eyes and children need to be heard.
