A teacher who dodged jail after having sex with a 15-year-old pupil in her car is being investigated by an education watchdog. Siobhan McLean, 33, met the boy in her role as head of pupil support at a secondary school in South Lanarkshire.
She had been helping his relative apply for university courses as well as taking study classes which the boy attended. McLean later contacted him on social media and they began exchanging messages before they had sex in a flat following a night out.
They had sex for a second time in her BMW motor in a car park at Craignethan Castle near Blackwood, Lanarkshire, in September last year. McLean, of Airdrie, Lanarkshire, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court and admitted engaging in sexual activity and was ordered her to carry out 300 hours of unpaid work and put her under supervision for three years.
It has now emerged McLean is under investigation by the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS). She was dismissed from her teaching role after her inappropriate relationship with the boy came to light.
A temporary restriction order has now been marked against her registration on the official GTCS website which means her registration is restricted pending conclusion of an investigation into her fitness to teach.
A source said: "She was a really popular teacher at the school but has thrown it all away in two moments of absolute madness.
"The GTCS will look into what has happened and could easily conclude that she has to be struck off given the gross breach of trust she committed."
No date has yet been set for any disciplinary hearing. McLean was tagged for 12 months and is banned from having unsupervised contact with children other than her own.
