Riot police were blasted with petrol bombs and fireworks in a clash with 100 youths on Bonfire Night.
Terrifying footage emerged showing officers being struck by lit fireworks and flaming projectiles during a rampage in the Niddrie area of Edinburgh on Sunday, November 5.
Carnage broke out in the Hay Avenue area after a group of masked youths repeatedly let off the explosives in the direction of officers in front of shocked residents.
Officers clad in riot gear were forced to form a line of defence as several rockets struck their shields. A number of rockets were also seen hitting nearby houses and cars.
A separate video clip, taken by a youth, shows the gang laughing as they let off the rockets. One male shouts: "Get it on his head" seconds before a firework explodes near police.
Another youth was filmed holding a bazooka-style launcher to aim their rocket. A number of roads in the area have been closed with bus services diverted.
Police Scotland confirmed officers remain in attendance after being called at around 4.30pm. A force spokesperson said: "We are currently dealing with an incident of significant disorder in the Hay Avenue area of Edinburgh, which began around 4.40pm this afternoon.

"Reports were received of a large number of youths involved in the antisocial use of fireworks and local officers requested support from the #OpMoonbeam specially-trained Public Order resource.
"Police in attendance are currently being subjected to attacks involving fireworks, petrol bombs and other projectiles and the public is asked to avoid the area while the response is ongoing.
