Police issue arrest update after man killed in crash in Oldham

Two people who were arrested after a man was killed in a crash in Oldham have been released on bail, police have confirmed.
The 59-year-old man tragically died after being knocked down on Park Road, close to the Alexandra Retail Park, on Saturday afternoon (March 9). Police said he was hit by a car while waiting to cross over on a refuge island,
It is believed one vehicle was travelling along Park Road, when it crashed with another car waiting to turn into the retail park. One of the vehicles then ploughed into two pedestrians stood at the island, leaving the victim with fatal injuries.

The other man - also aged 59 - suffered serious injuries and was rushed to hospital. The two drivers - a 32-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman - were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
In an update issued this morning, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said both have since been released on bail. After the smash, a stretch of the road was cordoned off as multiple emergency services vehicles responded.
An air ambulance also landed nearby. Officers are continuing to urge anyone with information, or who has CCTV, dash cam or phone footage, to come forward.
