Police have made an arrest after a man was 'attacked with a hammer' after a collision on the M61 on Tuesday morning (March 20).
Emergency services were called to the incident on the motorway following reports a man had been assaulted. The victim was found by police and paramedics before reporting he had been attacked with a hammer following a collision.
Officers from Greater Manchester Police and Lancashire Police arrested a male at the scene who was transferred for questioning in Manchester.

Greater Manchester Police have since confirmed that the suspect was arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault, driving whilst over the specified drug limit and possession of cannabis. He remains in custody.
A post shared by GMP Traffic on Tuesday read: "This morning calls were received regarding a motorist being attacked on the M61. Victim was found safe and well and stated that he had been attacked with a hammer following a RTC.
"With help from @LancsPolice the offender has been arrested M61 on his return to GMP."
The force later confirmed that the victim sustained minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment.
