Courtney Howard The “PAW Patrol” franchise is now 10 years old — 70 in dog years — and with each installment, children and their parents have been treated to exciting adventures, wholesome characters and cool new merchandise. What began as a preschool TV series in 2013 got the silver-screen treatment in 2021 with the inventively named “PAW Patrol: The Movie,” broadening its scale and reach but sacrificing none of its lesson-learning or toy-slinging.
Given the property’s theatrical and streaming success, there’s an audience perpetually hungry to connect with the ongoing saga of a tween boy and his pack of four-legged heroes. The fantasy-forward follow-up “PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie,” involving a meteor, magic crystals and a mad scientist (who hates being called that), expands their journey to saving the world.
This time, their mission holds greater challenge and peril — raising the bar creatively and bumping the MPAA rating from G to PG. While not as subversive as its predecessor, it delivers on the promise of a smart and salient sequel with bolder action, bigger stakes, and deeper resonance for all ages.
Adventure City is safe and secure on land, at sea and in the air thanks to the elite PAW Patrol and their efforts to quell crime and avert disasters. Team leader Ryder (Finn Lee-Epp) is so confident in their ability to keep the peace that he’s decided to take on three young, clumsy and over-eager trainees: Nano (Alan Kim), Mini (Brice Gonzalez) and Tot (North West).
Though the newest member of the pack, headstrong dachshund Liberty (Marsai Martin), is initially opposed to the idea, she stays behind to train the trio when the others are called out to fight danger. Little do they know a lurking evil is about to upend

SUNDAY AM: Refresh for chart and more analysis Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie is lapping up $23M, a big win for Paramount and Spin Master as the picture is part of a $14 billion global retail franchise which both companies get a nice cut of. And successful movies drive toy sales. It was part of Brian Robbins’ plan when he took over Paramount Pictures Studios to have family brands work at the box office, which also have a rainfall of cash in merchandise, particularly in an entertainment conglomerate that counts the powerful, and evergreen Nickelodeon brand. EntTelligence says Paw Patrol 2 drew 2.3M admissions, with close to half of the pic’s tickets being sold at child pricing.
Rebecca Rubin Film and Media Reporter Paramount’s animated sequel “PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie” topped the box office in its debut, earning a solid $23 million from 3,989 North American locations over the weekend. Those ticket sales were more than enough to rule over the three other new nationwide releases, which could be categorized as the good (Lionsgate’s gruesome “Saw X“), the meh (Disney and New Regency’s sci-fi thriller “The Creator“) and the ugly (Sony’s Game Stop stock-inspired “Dumb Money“). “Saw X” took second place with $18 million, an impressive start for the 10th entry in the long-running horror series.
The numbers are in!
J. Kim Murphy There was one key question gripping the box office heading into this weekend: would audiences be PAWing, or would they be Sawing? In a crowded September capper with four new wide releases, Paramount’s “PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie” looks to come out on top. The animated feature is edging out Lionsgate’s horror entry “Saw X” to lead domestic charts.

There’s no question that Melissa Etheridge is an inviting performer, whether she’s beckoning through her window or simply asking us to enjoy some of the great rock singing ever – and, yes, at 62 she is still a great rock singer, her raspy voice as rangy, powerful and, when she wants, as subtle as it was during her 1990s breakthrough days.

An online rumor recently made the rounds saying filmmaker Matthew Vaughn was next in line to take over the James Bond franchise, and it’s fitting but almost laughable. Because Vaughn, who actively sought the James Bond gig early in his directing life, has basically made an entire career of doing his own spy franchises, almost snubbing his nose at Bond in the process.
