New PIP update for people due an assessment or coming to end of payment award

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has said that new claims for Personal Independence Payment (PIP) are being prioritised over existing claimant reviews to ensure people can access financial support “in a timely manner”. Those already on PIP coming to the end of their award will see their payments automatically continued until a review can be conducted - there will be no breaks in payments.
Minister for Disabled People, Health and Work, Tom Pursglove MP confirmed the details in a recent written response to Labour MP Vicky Foxcroft after she had asked what the DWP was doing to clear the current backlog of PIP reviews.
Mr Pursglove said: “We are committed to ensuring people can access financial support through Personal Independence Payment in a timely manner. We prioritise new claims, while ensuring claimants awaiting award reviews remain in payment until we can make a decision.”
He added: “We always aim to make an award review decision as quickly as possible, considering the need to review all available evidence, including that from the claimant.”

The Minister also said that claimants should contact the DWP if their condition changes so their review can be looked at more quickly.
The latest statistics from the DWP indicate that some 68,460 PIP assessments were conducted remotely by video call or over the phone last month. The figure for May accounts for nearly 73 per cent of all assessments conducted.
The data also indicates that 7,290 assessments (7.7%) were conducted in-person and 18,600 (19.7%) were paper-based - this means awards were based solely on a claimant’s responses to the PIP 2 health
