New calls to pay people on Carer’s Allowance £364 each week due official response

Millions of households across the UK could be in line for up to £1,050 worth of support to help them through the cost of living crisis from the start of November.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has rejected the proposal in an online petition calling for unpaid carers to receive payments of £364 each week for the 35 hours of support they provide to family or friends. People claiming Carer’s Allowance currently receive £76.75 each week through the benefit from the DWP.

Charities are stepping up calls for the UK Government to introduce a ‘Help to Repay’ scheme on energy bills as research showed one in four households with fuel debts are unable to clear arrears. An estimated 6.4 million people are now in arrears with their energy bills - up more than 824,000 since April, according to a nationwide survey of 2,000 adults conducted last week for National Debtline, which is run by the Money Advice Trust charity.
