Netflix has confirmed some news: some fan favorite hits are returning this year that we previously didn’t realize would be debuting in 2024!
Specifically, Squid Game‘s second season and The Diplomat season 2, and more.
Netflix revealed these details (and some info we already knew previously) in a letter to shareholders.

The letter reads, via Variety, “Looking ahead, despite last year’s strikes pushing back the launch of some titles, we have a big, bold slate for 2024. Audiences will be able to choose from hit returning dramas like The Diplomat S2, Bridgerton S3, Squid Game S2 and Empress S2; unscripted series like Tour de France: Unchained S2, Love is Blind S6, F1: Drive to Survive S6 and Full Swing S2; and brand new shows like 3 Body Problem (based on the best selling novel and from the Game of Thrones showrunners), Griselda (starring Sofia Vegara, which premieres this week), The Gentlemen (from Guy Ritchie), Eric (starring Benedict Cumberbach), Avatar: The Last Airbender, Cien Años de Soledad, from Colombia based on the novel by Gabriel García Márquez and Senna from Brazil. On the film side, in addition to the Rebel Moon sequel, our slate includes Back in Action with Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx, Carry On from Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment starring Jason Bateman and Taron Edgerton, Spellbound from producer John Lasseter, Eddie Murphy reprising his role in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, and Six Triple Eight starring Kerry Washington and directed by Tyler Perry.”

Selome Hailu Manolo Caro has entered a multi-year first look deal with Onyx Collective alongside Rafael Ley and Maria Jose Cordova of Woo Films, who produced Caro’s Netflix series “The House of Flowers.” Along with “The House of Flowers,” which ran for three seasons from 2018 to 2020, Caro is known for creating Netflix’s 2020 limited series “Someone Has to Die” and directing films including 2016’s “Tales of an Immoral Couple” and 2018’s “Perfect Strangers.” Woo Films has been behind several of Caro’s projects as well as films the Netflix films “Noise” (2022) and “Where the Tracks End” (2023) and the Viggo Mortensen-led “Eureka” (2023). “Manolo Caro is in a rare class of storytellers who blend heart and humor to reveal the essence of what makes us all human,” said Tara Duncan, president of Onyx Collective.
Yesterday, Netflix announced new series “Death by Lightning,” a drama retelling the rise of US President James Garfield and his subsequent assassination by Charles Guiteau. It’s the next title from executive producers David Benioff and D.B.
What’s next on Netflix in 2024? First and foremost, Season 2 of “Squid Game,” the Korean TV series that went viral in 2021. One of the streamer’s most-watched series ever returns later this year, and it’s safe to assume the hype hasn’t let up in the 2.5 years since the first season’s premiere.
Netflix is doing its annual blitz, a big dog and pony show for the press that’s revealing its entire TV slate for 2024. Many heavy hitters are returning for 2024, including a confirmed “Squid Game,” season two, “Cobra Kai” season six, “Emily in Paris” season four, “The Night Agent” season two, “Outer Banks” season four, “Heartstopper” season three, a second season of “That 90’s Show,” “The Diplomat” season two, “Girls5Eva” season three, and the fourth and final season of “The Umbrella Academy.” Noticeable absent, “Stranger Things” season five so we may officially be waiting until 2025.

Allison Janney is guest starring on The Diplomat this season!

Janney will appear in a guest starring role of the political thriller series, playing Vice President Grace Penn. She joins series lead Keri Russell, who stars as the titular diplomat Kate Wyler.

Netflix has confirmed that several of its hit series will return with new seasons this year, including Squid Game, Bridgerton and Emily In Paris.Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk broke the news to Netflix shareholders in a letter yesterday (January 23), as revealed by a Variety report. In Hwang’s letter, he name-dropped several titles returning to the streaming in 2024, headlined by his smash hit Korean thriller.While he was unable to share an official release date for Squid Game’s second season, Hwang assured shareholders that it will arrive this year, alongside new seasons of Bridgerton, Emily In Paris, Formula 1: Drive To Survive, The Diplomat, Empress, Love Is Blind and more.Other titles mentioned include Tour de France: Unchained, Full Swing, and new shows like 3 Body Problem, Griselda, The Gentlemen, Eric, Avatar: The Last Airbender and Cien Años de Soledad.Season 3 of Bridgerton is locked in for a May 14 release, while Avatar: The Last Airbender arrives on February 22.Squid Game was renewed for a second season back in 2022, months after it was released the year prior to global appeal and critical acclaim.
