A pensioner has been surprised with a special trip to the Manchester hotel where he celebrated his wedding 60 years ago.

Feeling embarrassed about her body, Lindsay Howlett had hidden behind baggy clothes for as long as she could remember.
The mum-of-one tipped the scales at 14st 6lbs at her heaviest thanks to regular takeaways and sugary snacks.
Lindsay was a dress size 18 when she decided enough was enough, signing up to Greater Manchester based slimming group Beeweighed in September 2023.

The 29-year-old began calorie counting and took up spin classes in a bid to slim down for health reasons.
Ditching the takeaways and swapping chocolate for healthy snacks, the mum watched as the weight dropped off, so far losing a total of 1st 4.5lbs.
Lindsay, who now fits into size 14 clothing, said: “I felt embarrassed and ashamed. I wasn’t exercising and eating takeaways and unhealthy snacks at night.
“I feel a lot fitter, healthier and happier with myself so far, although I do want to lose some more.”
The mum, who lives in Crewe, would order takeaways up to three times a week before embarking on her weight loss journey. She also regularly ate multiple chocolate bars a day.
She puts her weight loss success down to calorie counting everything she eats, the support she receives from Beeweighed and her spin classes.
The mum says swapping unhealthy snacks for healthier options including fruit, protein yogurts and ‘skinny bars’ has massively helped too.
“One major reason [I wanted to lose weight] was for my mental health as well as my physical health. I couldn’t have done it without the support of Beeweighed leader Vanessa and the other ladies.”
