A Michelin-starred restaurant in the Lake District, a glamping site in Lancashire and an Italian restaurant in the Ribble Valley are among the finalists shortlisted for the VisitEngland’s Awards for Excellence. Celebrating the very best of England’s tourism industry, the awards champion quality, innovation, best practice and exceptional customer service.
A shortlist of 48 finalists has been announced spanning 16 categories, including experience of the year, small hotel of the year and pub of the year. Gold, silver and bronze winners will be announced at a black tie event held at the Rum Warehouse at The Titanic Hotel Liverpool on June 5.
Several venues and attractions from across the North West have made the shortlist. Italian restaurant La Locanda, based in the Ribble Valley, has been shortlisted for the Taste of England Award. The traditional restaurant is run by Maurizio and Cinzia Bocchi and specialises in authentic Italian cuisine.

It’s up against Michelin-starred Allium at Askham Hall in the Lake District, led by chef Richard Swale. Elsewhere in the Lake District, The Yan at Broadrayne, Grasmere has been nominated for the Ethical, Responsible and Sustainable Tourism Award. The site runs a bistro with ensuite bedrooms, holiday cottages and glamping.
Another Lancashire spot up for an award is The Love Island-inspired Secret Garden Glamping in Skelmersdale. The luxury site is shortlisted for the Camping, Glamping and Holiday Park of the Year category.

Peter Kay and The Black Keys being forced to postpone their shows.The 23,500-capacity venue, which is now the largest arena in the UK, has faced numerous rows, controversy and teething problems in the run-up to its official launch.It was supposed to open with performances from Peter Kay on April 23 and 24, However, following a test gig featuring Rick Astley at the weekend, the shows were moved to April 29 and 30 due to the venue’s power testing falling “a few days” behind schedule.Now, it has been confirmed that the upcoming gig from The Black Keys – set for tomorrow (April 27) – has also been postponed at the last minute, and the rescheduled shows by Peter Kay will be moved once again.“Since making the difficult decision to postpone the live shows at Co-op Live due to take place this week, we have been undertaking an extensive protocol of testing critical procedures to ensure all areas are ready for fans. To ensure that we can run all shows safely, regretfully we have now had to take the decision to reschedule the planned The Black Keys and Peter Kay shows,” read a new statement from the venue.It added that The Black Keys will now perform on May 15, and Peter Kay will now perform on May 23 and 24.
