Michael Mosley has a strong warning for people who brush their teeth immediately after breakfast.
The health expert - who is famed for his Fast 800 and 5:2 diets - has warned people who brush their teeth immediately after eating could be damaging their mouths.
Brushing right after eating can weaken your tooth enamel leading to mouth issues. Michael suggests brushing first thing in the morning and then eat breakfast once the minty fresh taste has subsided.
Michael wrote on X: "Does anyone brush their teeth BEFORE breakfast? That's the advice from the American Dental Association. If you don't do it before, [you] should wait at least 30 mins after in case acid from meal weakens enamel and brushing damages."
Location, Location, Location star Kirsty Allsopp agrees with Dr Mosley's guidance, revealing that she was taught this same method years prior and has been following it since.
Michael added: "Doesn't it make breakfast taste funny? I'm currently trying to wait 30 minutes after breakfast before brushing but that just feels unnatural; like waiting 30 minutes after going to the loo to wash your hands."
Dr Khaled Kasem, chief orthodontist at Impress, explained to The Express that cleaning your teeth straight after eating might lead to problems down the road.
"This is because when you eat breakfast, the acid in the mouth weakens the tooth enamel, which can lead to cavities and other oral health problems", he mentioned. Dr Kasem also cautioned that it could result in a need for "dental treatment" later on.
Also, if your morning routine includes a cuppa coffee or a breakfast with more acidic foods like fruits, The American Dental Association advises waiting an hour post eating before brushing - so best to wake up nice and early.
