People waking up across the UK this morning may have left wondering why their cars appeared "dusty" after it rained overnight.
After days of blistering heat, it cooled down slightly overnight with rain falling over much of the country.
However, the rain appeared to be "dirty" - leaving vehicles, windscreens and windows looking pretty filthy and covered in dust. On Thursday morning many people took to social media to share their own pictures of filthy cars and to find out what exactly the reason was behind it.

@sashekin tweeted: "A few minutes of light rain in north wales has left my car covered in dirty spots, they don’t feel or look like sand"
@darlosworld wrote: "Was the rain last night dirty? My car and others looks like they’ve been doused with coffee water this morning."
@Phazeee1 added: "What’s with this dirty rain, my car looks like I’ve been driving through muddy puddles", while @hayleighjade tweeted: "Anyone else’s car absolutely filthy this morning or just mine? Did we have dirty rain or what."
According to the Met Office the reason for the "dirty" is down to the Sahara desert.
Stephen Dixon, a Met Office spokesperson, explained to the M.E.N: "Saharan dust has been in the atmosphere around the UK in recent days. For Manchester, some of this has been rained out in early morning showers, which gives this ‘dirty’ look that some people will have noticed on their car this morning.
"The levels of Saharan dust is lower in concentration over the coming days, before moving away early next week."
Saharan dust is a mixture of sand and dust from the desert which covers most of North Africa.
