McFly’s leading man, Danny Jones, aka Piranha, won The Masked Singer on Saturday 17 February and on This Morning, confessed how he really felt about competing. Speaking to Josie Gibson and Craig Doyle, Danny confessed the ‘pressure’ he felt to do well because he’s a professional singer. Danny was up against the likes of Lorraine Kelly, Alex Brooker, Lemar and Melody Thornton in the competition but beat them all to the punch and he was crowned the winner of series 5.
The panel, Mo Gilligan, Davina McCall, Rita Ora and Jonathan Ross did successfully guess Danny’s identity - but that didn’t stop him from winning the show Celine Dion It's All Coming Back to Me Now. While Danny seemed to fly through the competition he said on This Morning that he felt "pressure" to do well in the competition because he’s "a singer in a band". He also added: “That’s why I pushed myself to choose songs that nobody’s heard me sing.
With McFly, we have our albums and the fans know what we can do - the reach of this show is incredible.” There were some very impressive costumes in this series from Bigfoot to Dippy Egg and Chicken Caesar and some look incredibly uncomfortable to perform in. But Danny said this wasn’t the case for him. “I quite liked it,” he said when Josie and Craig asked what it was like transforming into Piranha.
“I got to play that personality, walk silly, having a laugh, fin pumping people down the corridor. It becomes more comfortable the more you wear it - but the first time is a complete shock.” However Danny admits he wasn’t too unprepared for the costume and even wore ‘a weighted vest’ during rehearsals to prepare. “It’s really heavy,” he said.
