A masked up teenager who stole a Range Rover before leading the police on a 100 mph chase through Bury and Bolton has avoided going to prison.
18-year-old Terry Nelson was part of a group of four males seen rifling through the boot of the Evoque by a passing driver, before speeding off, Minshull Street Crown Court heard.
The car was later picked up by Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras at speeds of 100mph. Nelson, of Bolton, who was driving the stolen vehicle, was seen to drive on the wrong side of the dual carriageway and nearly crash into other cars.

Aubrey Sampson, prosecuting, said that on January 27 this year, at around 10pm, the police received reports of ‘four males’ wearing balaclavas going through the boot of a Range Rover Evoque.
“The witness reported seeing two men sat inside the vehicle on Green Lane, in Kearsley, when she drove past,” he said.
“They got back into the car, then drove off with the boot still open. The vehicle almost hit her vehicle as it drove off.”
Officers later found a boot cover, three hockey sticks and a bank card belonging to the owner of the Range Rover at the scene.
The car was later picked up by ANPR cameras as it made its way from Bury to Bolton. It was said to have reached 100 mph in 40 mph zones, drove on the wrong side of the road and narrowly avoided crashing into oncoming traffic.
The 25 minute police chase came to an end when officers deploy a stinger, resulting in driver Nelson being arrested.
