A former museum worker in Aberdeen, who died after stepping out in front of a lorry, had been in court charged with an historic sex offence the day before.
Kevin Brice, 57, died on February 1, 2022 after he was struck by the vehicle outside a hospital on Hermitage Lane in Maidstone only one day after the trial had begun on January 31.
Brice had been admitted to hospital following calls of concern for his welfare to the emergency services, with an inquest later launched into his death, reports Aberdeen Live.
The inquest was previously opened before being adjourned until cops could establish the full details leading up to his death. A full hearing resumed with a jury sitting for six days.
It then ruled earlier this month that Mr Brice had died partly due to a "delay in alerting" the correct people at the hospital he had left while attending the medical facility with his wife.
Brice had a long-running struggle with mental health concerns having previously attempted to take his own life on multiple occasions.
Attempts on his life were made in 1980 aged just 16, again in 1992 amid another ongoing court case which was dropped, and another in 2009.
Mr Brice was staying in Maidstone while appearing in court accused of sexual assault against a minor.
In written evidence from his wife Gwen Black, the inquest heard how on the first day of his court trial, Mr Brice became distressed after seeing his ex-wife and his son, Jake Hitchcock, 28.
