Manchester University Students' Union at centre of row over 'abhorrent' pro-choice society

A row has broken out at Manchester University's Students' Union over the establishment of a Pro-Life Society.
Students have blasted the club as 'abhorrent' and 'concerning,' saying the Students' Union 'should be a place that supports all students' rights and wellbeing,' accusing them of 'endorsing societies that aim to abolish these rights'. They have also levelled criticisms at the committee of the organisation which appears to be made up entirely of men.
But the Students Union has responded saying it can’t block a society from forming because of their beliefs if they are lawful.

On the Students' Union's website, the society says it aims to 'create a Pro-Life culture on campus and support the dignity of every human life from conception'.
A petition to dissolve the society has reached over 8,000 signatures, with signatories calling the organisation 'outrageous' and 'harmful'. One wrote: "I believe that the beliefs of this group are inherently dangerous as they wish to force their narrative and beliefs on women. For the safety of women on campus they should be banned."
Another commented: "As a woman who had a miscarriage but my body would not pass the baby naturally and HAD to have an abortion, I am absolutely disgusted. Three men feeling so deeply for something, they have went to the lengths and created a society to talk about something they will never understand is not only disrespectful but also very concerning.
"I think I speak for all women when I say this is not free speech because they do not own a womb and never will, therefore they should not have an opinion on the matter and them having a society only enforces this."
