Manchester United are under investigation after allegations that raw chicken was served at an event staged at Old Trafford for 275 people. Several people made complaints after the event which was staged last week.
Now, Trafford council has confirmed it is investigating the matter. It is understood the club, which has declined to comment, is carrying out an internal inquiry as well. The Manchester Evening News undersands the club will have three weeks to respond to the council.
The club could potentially face prosecution but alternatively the council could make a series of recommendations if they establish it has a case to answer. At this stage it is not clear if people became unwell or how many - that is to be established by the investigation.

Catering is a major source of income for the club. United currently have a food hygiene rating of 'Very Good' from the Food Standards Agency (FSA), a government department responsible for food safety and hygiene.
They carry out inspections of businesses that serve food and United were last inspected on October 23, although the FSA has yet to publish their new rating.
A spokesperson for Trafford Council confirmed its Environmental Health team was investigating the matter.
The club earns significant revenue from serving food and hosting events and a downgrade on their hygiene rating could impact that. The club not only hires out its suites for events like company Chritmas parties, but also provided lucrative hospitality packages on match days which will include meals.
