Manchester Airport had the third highest number of crimes per passenger out of 21 UK international airports in 2022, figures have revealed. A total of 1,505 crimes were reported at the airport last year.
A total of 23,364,471 passengers passed through the airport - the UK’s second largest - in 2022, meaning the airport had a crime rate of 6.4 offences per 100,000 passengers. The data was obtained via an FOI submitted to Greater Manchester Police by security training firm Get Licensed.
Included in the 1,505 crimes reported at Manchester Airport in 2022 were 943 theft offences; 155 public order offences; 75 incidents of criminal damage and arson; and 32 incidents of sexual offences.

According to FOIs submitted to police forces across the country, Humberside Airport topped the crime rate list with 9.7 crimes per 100,000 passengers, while London Luton Airport ranked second with 7.2. Following Manchester Airport, Glasgow Prestwick Airport had a crime rate of 6.3, while Glasgow Airport ranked fifth with a rate of 6.1.
Superintendent Helen Caldbeck, GMP's commander for Manchester Airport, said: "Greater Manchester Police has a large team based at the airport including neighbourhood officers, response teams, intelligence officers, its own CID and, uniquely at GMP, armed and unarmed officers.
“Our main aim is to keep people safe, including people who are travelling through the airport and the people who work there. We have a constant and visible presence across all areas of the airport and are based at a police station on site.
