Manchester United have released a statement detailing the findings from an investigation into how more than 1,000 tickets fell into the hands of Galatasaray supporters during their Champions League game at Old Trafford on Tuesday night - and how the club will strive to prevent a repeat in the future.
The Turkish side recorded a 3-2 win and the volume of supporters they had in the home stands became apparent after the final whistle sounded. There were celebrations from the travelling fans who had managed to obtain tickets alongside United supporters.
A large group were seated in the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand with more in the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand and the upper tier of the Scoreboard End. In that section, a banner dedicated to Sir Matt Busby was brought down, with United opening an investigation into how the situation happened.

In a four-point statement delivered to supporters, the United investigation found that the club did not sell tickets to anyone with a Turkish address, while all general admission passes were only sold to official members. Meanwhile, due to low demand, Galatasaray only took up 2,200 of their potential 4,000 allocation.
This led to United and relevant authorities deeming any prospect of infiltration was low-risk. The investigation was centred on three main groups, despite a few away supporters being visible in other stands.
