A court has heard that a man who was shot dead in the street 'wasn't very pleased' after being told he would have to pay 'full price' for his trainers to be cleaned.
Zikel Bobmanuel, 32, died after Ingram shot a single bullet at Openshaw which hit the floor and bounced up before striking him in the neck. Prosecutors claim that Bobmanuel's alleged murder followed a row over some trainers, Manchester Crown Court has heard.
Ingram and a second man, Emmanuel Onasanya, are both on trial accused of murder but they both deny the charge. Ingram has admitted manslaughter.
Mr Onasanya, 32, who had a trainer cleaning business, said he had agreed to clean five pairs of trainers belonging to Mr Bobmanuel, for £20 per pair, reports the MEN.
He said he took the shoes and cleaned them, but claimed Mr Bobmanuel did not respond to his messages for months and he didn't receive payment. Prosecutors claim Mr Onasanya 'enlisted the support and assistance' of Ingram, when they went to meet with Mr Bobmanuel on March 25, at the time the fatal shooting occurred.
Giving evidence in his defence for the first time, Mr Onasanya said he started the business on Instagram after he had to stop working because of health issues. He said he had previously cleaned trainers for Ingram, 36, and had known Mr Bobmanuel through his half-brother.
Mr Onasanya said he'd then gone on to clean trainers for Mr Bobmanuel. He said he agreed to clean the five pairs of trainers 'reluctantly', after alleging that Mr Bobmanuel hadn't paid him on time previously.
"Prior to that Zikel had never paid me on time," he told the jury. "He was always messing me about."
Mr Onasanya said he usually charged £25 for a standard clean or £30 for a deep clean but agreed to charge Mr Bobmanuel
