A man had surgery to remove a "huge" nose growth which stopped him leaving the house in daylight - unless he wore a motorbike helmet. Former Navy sailor Ian Arthur, 64, originally from Manchester, began developing enlarged, red bumps on his nose more than ten years ago, and he sought medical advice.
His GP diagnosed Ian with rosacea, a skin condition causing redness and sensitivity, and prescribed a treatment - but his nose continued to expand. Prior to the Covid lockdowns, Ian sought treatment a second time, and was prescribed an ointment and a chemical scrub - again, to no avail.
In 2022, he was referred to a specialist dermatology clinic, but says he still hasn't received an appointment letter. Ian, now living in Helensburgh in Scotland, who had served in the Navy for 32 years, would isolate himself to avoid people seeing his nose, and was becoming more and more desperate to do something about the condition - then he went private and his transformation is amazing.

He was suffering from rhinophyma, a nasal deformity caused by the proliferation of sebaceous glands and underlying connective tissue.
"The rhinophyma started to develop about 10 years ago, gradually at first, but then more aggressively," Ian said. "It became much worse and much more noticeable until, by two years ago, I started to feel like a freak. In my isolation, I called my nose John, after John Merrick in The Elephant Man."
"It was huge carbuncle, which people could not avoid looking at. During Covid, I began to withdraw from society and, when it ended, I just couldn't face meeting people. I wound down my business, because I felt clients were just staring at my nose.
"I even began
