Kate Garraway 'tries not to cry' as she confronts government on Good Morning Britain and is defended by Susanna Reid

Kate Garraway was left trying to contain her emotions as she was given the chance to confront a government minister live on Good Morning Britain. While she wasn't hosting the show today, Kate joined Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard as a newsreader on Thursday's show (September 14).
But Kate was left fighting back tears after she had opened up on her husband Derek Draper's recently ill health earlier in the programme. On the penultimate episode of the programme this week, Susnna and Ben were joined via video link by Health Secretary Steve Barclay.
The hosts had led the interview initially, but Ben soon passed over to Kate who he said was "more experienced" on the subject of carers as she continues to experience dealing with the health and social care system as her husband Derek, 56, continues to fight various battles after coronavirus 'wreaked havoc' on his body over three years ago.

Kate told Mr Barclay that she had been trying to contact his office for weeks to no avail in a bid to set up a meeting. She then admitted she was "trying not to cry" as she said: "This is not about Derek by the way or trying to get something for him.
"It's about representing millions of people across the country who like me on one hand feel they are holding the lives of their loved ones. And in the other hand," before breaking off stating: "I don't want to cry." She bravely continued: "In the other hand are just punching and punching away at a system and it isn't about money actually ..."
