Kate Garraway reveals husband Derek had 'nasty infection' in latest health scare

Kate Garraway has revealed that her husband Derek Draper has suffered another setback by battling a "nasty infection".
The Good Morning Britain presenter's husband, 56, needs round-the-clock care after spending more than a year in hospital as the UK's worst affected surviving Covid patient. Kate, 56, has been caring for Derek since he returned home to live with her and their two children, and has made two award-winning documentaries about what life is like for them.
Her third book, The Strength of Love, was published today (Thursday) which details her family's struggles with the health and care systems, and speaking about it on Thursday's Good Morning Britain she gave an update on how Derek is doing now. As her co-star Susanna Reid asked how Derek is, she replied: "He's good, he had a very good day yesterday, he's had a nasty infection this week that set him back a bit but we're on the right side of it, so that's good." Kate also said in the interview: "There are so many people in the health system trapped in the web of it.
People are not being taken care of in a system that's in trouble." The TV star, who has won National Television Awards for her documentaries Finding Derek and Caring for Derek, has told how she rarely sleeps more than four hours a night as she cares for her husband at home. She previously told The Sunday Times: "Caring for someone you love is a privilege, and I will never give up, but I want to champion the cause that everyone in my position faces because I know people are drowning trying to navigate through the care system.
