Manchester City must use the hurt they are feeling in the dressing room after defeat to Aston Villa as motivation to turn their stuttering form around - insisting it could be the best thing that could happen to them.
That is the view of John Stones, who returned to the City team at Villa after another spell out with injury. He looked rusty as Villa overpowered City, who struggled without the suspended Rodri and injured Kevin De Bruyne in the centre.
Defeat at Villa Park means City have not won in the Premier League in four outings, their worst run since Pep Guardiola's first season in charge back in 2016/17. But Stones believes that the pain his side are feeling now can be a positive thing come the end of the season.

"We’ve been in this position before and I don’t think we should dwell on it too much," Stones insisted. "We’ve come back from tough times in previous years. We have to take the positives from it. In a way sometimes it can be a good thing that we have to feel this pain.
"It’s never plain sailing and never easy. We have to focus on ourselves and get back to what we do best which is sticking together as a team. We’ve been in a bit of a sticky patch in the past few games and when things aren’t going for you, it has a bit of a snowball effect. We’ve got to look at ourselves and we weren’t up to our standard [at Villa] and it’s cost us.”
