their daughter Maudie’s death, a tragedy that occurred when she was just two-and-a-half years old. When they were first approached about the film, Clara was reluctant to take part, as the original premise made her feel ‘uncomfortable’. However, they realised how they wanted to tell their family’s story and so went back to ITV with their feedback, which is how the film Jason & Clara: In Memory of Maudie eventually was made.
Metro. co. uk recently spoke to the couple about what motivated them to agree to get involved in the production, which delves all the way back to New Year’s Day in 2011, when Maudie died unexpectedly from sepsis.
The toddler’s parents had become concerned over her health, resulting in her being taken to hospital twice, but her sepsis went undiagnosed after her flu symptoms masked the condition. Actor Jason and designer and actor Clara are determined to raise as much awareness of sepsis as possible, in an effort to encourage members of the public and medical professionals to feel more confident in identifying and flagging symptoms of the condition. The UK Sepsis Trust outlines that there are at least 245,000 cases of sepsis every year in the UK, and up to 48,000 deaths as a result of the condition every year across the nation.
The charity states: ‘Sepsis (also known as blood poisoning) is the immune system’s overreaction to an infection or injury. Normally our immune system fights infection – but sometimes, for reasons we don’t yet understand, it attacks our body’s own organs and tissues. If not treated immediately, sepsis can result in organ failure and death.
