TV chef James Martin managed to lose three stone by cutting out certain foods from his diet.
The 51 year old, who once weighed 17 stone, changed his eating habits after participating in Strictly Come Dancing in 2005. James went from 17st to 14st by adopting a healthier lifestyle and diet.
He revealed that he no longer eats takeaway pizza, saying: "I no longer stuff my face with really bad things." The star confessed to the Herald that he used to eat "tonnes" of high-calorie foods during a work day, just like many other chefs. He also shared that he has stopped eating "Mars bars and fizzy soft drinks".
He said: "We might admire the Mediterranean diet but we don't eat the way the French, Spanish or Italians eat." According to the NHS, a Mediterranean diet includes plant foods like fruit, vegetables, wholegrains, nuts, seeds, and pulses, such as beans, chickpeas and lentils. This diet also includes moderate amounts of lean proteins like fish and chicken and low-fat dairy foods.
Olive oil is used instead of other oils and fats.
This can help with weight loss as plant foods are naturally lower in calories and high in fibre, which helps you feel fuller for longer. James has swapped fizzy drinks for 2.5 litres of water each day and revealed that he dropped a stone in weight during his first week on the BBC dance show.
Talking about his diet, James said, "It's hard work because I'm a big bloke so I've really got to watch what I eat and drink, and make sure I exercise regularly." While participating in Strictly, James ditched butter and by the time the competition ended, he had lost an impressive five stones. However, he has once again embraced butter and even penned a book about it, titled Butter: Comforting, Delicious, Versatile
