ITV Wheel of Fortune viewers have been left unimpressed with a new format change as the latest series of the show kicked off - with bosses scrapping an iconic part of the gameshow. Wheel Of Fortune was last seen on our screens more than two decades ago and was based on the US version which has run for almost 50 years. It made its big return to ITV on Saturday January 6, with Graham Norton fronting the new revival.
The reboot follows the same premise as before where players have to spin a huge carnival-style wheel in a bid to bag some cash. Contestants then pick a letter to help them solve a word puzzle. But the spin of the wheel can also bankrupt a player, so they could lose everything they have just won.
While it’s a fun, upbeat show, contestants can start to feel the pressure as the stakes grow higher, with over £50,000 to be won. Fans quickly noticed that the show no longer features the glamorous assistants who previously turned the letters round while they asked the questions. Instead, the letters turned themselves around and Graham was on his own.
One fan took to X, formally known as Twitter and said: "Kinda miss the woman that used to turn the tiles over", while another added: "There’s nobody turning the letters round? I’m out". A third person said that the shows format was "ruined", while another added: "No letter turner ffs". "This is terrible.
Where is the classic Theme tune? The sound is terrible, no Assistant to turn the letters. Just doesn’t work - lost its charm", another penned. However, many were delighted at the show's return.
One said: "Already loving it. So so good. #WheelOfFortune." Another added: "Really enjoyed #wheeloffortune on @ITV tonight.
