Coleen Nolan has opened up on her “empty nest” syndrome as she admitted she’s feeling “redundant”. The mum-of-three told fans about her recent experiences of motherhood and said it was “scary” at times to feel that she’s not needed by her children in the same way she used to be.
Loose Women star Coleen, 58, shared her open and honest account in an interview with new! magazine as she said: “Empty nest is a real thing, who knew."
She added: "When the children were younger I thought I'd be thrilled when they became independent. But it's the opposite, I've been feeling so redundant, like I don't have a purpose anymore.
"I've realised as their mum they'll always need me one way or another. Now it's time to concentrate on me it's like a new lease of life. I've so much I still want to do. It's been scary at times but I've turned that into excitement. I'm more confident to take control of my future now. Success and fail and that's a liberating feeling."
Coleen, who shot to fame as part of her family band The Nolans in 1974, has been married twice before, once to EastEnders legend Shane Richie, as writes the Mirror. The 58-year-old married Richie in 1990 but they split nine years later. She was married a second time, to Ray Fensome, who proposed on her 40th birthday in 2005. They were married in 2007 but split in 2018.
Coleen has since found love again, and is now in a relationship with Michael Jones, who she met on Tinder in 2021. They had split after a year but, after being encouraged by her children, she started seeing a therapist and then realised she wanted to get back with Michael. He's now moved into her Cheshire home and the pair are house hunting together to find a smaller pad, now that her kids have moved out.
