Coronation Street viewers were left in hysterics during tonight's instalment as a serious moment turned hilarious with Weatherfield legend Roy Cropper (played by David Neilson) appearing to make an awkward mishap. It came as the latest episode on Monday, 11 December, saw Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) held by the throat and threatened by a nasty thug during her shift at Dev Alahan's Corner Shop.
The character handled herself well but was left inevitably shaken-up by the experience and headed over to Roy's Rolls afterwards to give her friend the low-down.
Evelyn and Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) had stolen the thug's dog a few days earlier after realising he was cruelly abusing her, in a plot that could cause serious trouble over Christmas. Determined to get information about his dog's whereabouts, the thug cornered Evelyn in the shop beforeDev (Jimmi Harkishin) and Gary Windass (Mikey North) arrived and scared him off.
Later, a concerned Roy listened intently to Evelyn's distressing story, but the tension of the moment was completely shattered when the café owner made a jarring squeak noise on his chair. Fans couldn't believe what they'd just heard, and many wondered if a real life accident had happened.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one viewer questioned: "Did Roy fart or was that the chair #Corrie" "Roy farting with that chair haha #Corrie," another person laughed, while another posted a series of laughing emojis at the sound. "Did Roy fart then? Was that planned?" a third demanded in hysterics.
"Don't know how the actors managed to keep a straight face. #Corrie" "That was funny that fart from Roy, oh it was the chair #Corrie," a fourth joked, followed by more and more viewers unable to contain their giggles.
