Jaden Adams knew he identified as a boy long before he understood what the word transgender meant.
He would beg his mum to buy him clothes from the boys’ section and only resonated with male characters on TV.
But growing up on a council estate in Oldham, the 30-year-old was bullied throughout his younger years and quickly grew ashamed of how he felt.

It wasn’t until he escaped to an isolated farm retreat that he was finally able to be his true self – leading to a gender transition that would change his life forever.
“It was classed as being a tomboy, which was fine,” Jaden told the Manchester Evening News. “But I wanted more. I wanted to be a boy.”
Once a promising drama student at Manchester College, Jaden convinced himself he needed a "proper" job and dropped out of education to become a gas engineer.
In his late 20s, he decided to take a break from his career to travel around Canada and spent three months living on a farm.
While surrounded by open-minded people, Jaden came to the realisation he was not a woman and he was in fact a transgender man.
“It was the first time I was saying I didn’t think I was a girl around people and they were accepting and it felt right,” he added.
“I could actually say my new pronouns and I tested out my new name and it felt freeing. I had no shame because it was so accepted where I was.
“When I came back, I then had to integrate it into my life and my family – so that was when I realised it was going to be a long journey ahead.”
With Jaden’s revelation finally giving him a sense of peace, he returned back to the UK and told his friends and family he was transgender.
