Witnesses have told how a 'dangerous and out of control' dog was shot dead by police marksmen after a woman was bitten in Oldham. A man has been arrested following the attack in Moorside on Sunday morning.
Armed police and a police helicopter were called to the scene after reports two dogs were 'running loose' around the estate. They then attacked a woman, who was later taken to hospital with bite injuries, and mauled her dog, thought to be a cockapoo.
Pictures from the scene show two dogs - which appear to be an Alsatian/husky type cross and large bulldog-type breed - roaming loose without leads on.

Residents posted messages in a local Facebook group urging parents not to let their kids out while the dogs were loose. Others described their horror after seeing the dog shot dead.
One witness said: "About five unmarked police cars came screaming up and parked right outside our property. We saw a number of police officers get out with guns and tasers.
"The approached the dog, it was on next door's drive, and kind of circled around it. Within three seconds they shot it at point blank.
"There was a quite a commotion, a number of officers were running round the other side of the estate. They blocked cars from coming up the cul-de-sac.
"Then a police officer came and explained what had happened. He said the dogs had also been loose previously a few weeks ago and attacked someone and mauled her dog. He said they tried to calm him down, but he wasn't having it, so because it was in a built up area and it was approaching people's doors they didn't want to take any chances.
"It's just a sorry situation all round."

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon has received mostly positive reactions in first reviews, despite its clear similarities with The Last Of Us.Norman Reedus returns in the second post-Walking Dead spin-off following Dead City, which centred around Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan). In The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, which has already been renewed for a second season, the character finds himself escorting a young girl who might be humanity’s saviour across post-apocalyptic France. The premise echoes the Joel and Ellie dynamic of HBO’s The Last Of Us. While reviews from critics do highlight some differences between the two shows, the comparison is repeatedly noted as a potential sticking point.“While this spin-off is often derivative, with some moments becoming almost comical in how much they feel like The Last Of Us-lite, Daryl himself is a study foundation to build from,” Collider writes, giving the show a ‘B’ rating.
