A high school forced to close for weeks after a huge blaze broke out in a classroom on the first day of term has been left with 'significant smoke and water damage'.
Fire crews raced to the incident at the Dean Trust Ardwick high school, Stockport Road, on January 4. The school was forced to close immediately afterwards amid fire service investigations, with pupils instead completing lessons remotely from home.
However, it was only last week that the site reopened to Year 11 students, who are currently sitting their mock GCSE exams. The other four year groups are still currently being supported from home.

The school has now published a risk assessment for their re-opening following the fire, with the remaining year groups to start making their return to in-person lessons from next week.
The blaze, that tore through a classroom on the third floor of a school building, prompted a huge emergency services response, with police and fire crews closing Stockport Road in both directions overnight.
The Dean Trust CEO Tarun Kapur has since told the Manchester Evening News that 'everyone is doing what they can to bring the school back to normality'. The delay in reopening was due, in part, to the trust following fire service advice and also for works to be carried out due to the 'significant smoke and water damage' the building sustained.
"We are trying to get fully operational within next few weeks," he said. "Every child has been receiving online education. The Year 11s came back last week; they have been a priority because of their mock exams. A significant number of pupils are returning next week.
