The Great British Bake Off is back on our screens tonight (Tuesday September 26), with the new series including two huge firsts.
The popular Channel 4 competition sees twelve amateur bakers do everything in their power to avoid a soggy bottom, as they attempt to impress judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith. The iconic, bunting-draped tent serves as the backdrop as bakers scoop, mix, fold and whip their way to the coveted final round.
Among the twelve new bakers is 27-year-old Tasha. She is the first ever deaf contestant to take part in the show, and will be joined onscreen by her British sign language interpreter Daryl.

Tasha, a participations officer, said: "Seeing Daryl up at the front and feeling fully part of the show was a really special moment. I couldn’t have done it without him and without the dedication from the show ensuring I had the same access as the other bakers.”
This year, the competition has also scrapped its national-themed weeks - which previously included Japanese, German and Mexican cuisines - following backlash and accusations of cultural appropriation. In an interview ahead of Bake Off's fourteenth season, producer Kieran Smith told The Guardian: "I hold my hands up to the cooking complaint and the theme weeks.
"We didn’t want to offend anyone but the world has changed and the joke fell flat. We’re not doing any national themes this year.”
