Good Morning Britain presenter Ben Shephard has broken his silence on the possibility of joining the This Morning team on a more permanent basis, after stepping in to co-host the show last month following the departure of Phillip Schofield. Since Phillip left the ITV daytime show in May after admitting to having an “unwise but not illegal” affair with a younger colleague, Holly Willoughby has been joined by a number of guest co-stars including Josie Gibson and Craig Doyle.
Back in September, Ben, 48, also joined Holly on the This Morning sofa to present some episodes of the show – much to the delight of fans at home. More recently, while attending the Pride of Britain Awards on Sunday, 8 October, TV presenter Ben was quizzed on the possibility of him joining This Morning as a replacement for Phillip, and revealed that viewers could expect to see “some more” of him on the show.
“What I can tell you is I'm doing some more – I'm gonna be doing some more, but I'm just helping out really,” he told The Mirror. “So I've got some days coming up between now and Christmas so I'm not exactly sure but I'm still very, very much part of the furniture.” Ben’s update comes after a source told OK! that the TV star had been left “in two minds” over which show – This Morning or Good Morning Britain – he would pick up permanently.
“Ben loves doing both shows, but Susanna Reid really wants him to stay on Good Morning Britain. Although they are on the same channel, they’re sort of rivals and both need ratings, and Ben is great at bringing in viewers,” the source said.
They added: “Ben is great at that.
The public like him, he’s very honest and he’s a genuinely nice guy.
