UPDATED: April 6, 2023 Weekly Commentary: Two years after Elizabeth Olsen landed a deserved nomination for her turn as Wanda Maximoff in Marvel’s “WandaVision,” she’s back in the race again this season with a new, more challenging role. Olsen, 34, will be a likely contender, even a possible front-runner for her upcoming work as housewife Candy Montgomery in HBO’s limited crime drama “Love & Death.” Based on a true story, Olsen has been garnering industry respect and adoration fore more than a decade. Under the guidance of 11-time Emmy winning writer David E. Kelley (most recent win was for “Big Little Lies”) and eight-time nominated director Lesli Lanka Glatter (“Mad Men” and “Homeland”), Olsen could have what it takes to break into the race that has only one assurance thus far — Jessica Chastain for Showtime’s “George & Tammy,” who won the SAG Award back in February. Zack Sharf Digital News Director Whenever Elizabeth Olsen returns to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she’ll surely be hoping a permanent stunt double comes along with her. Speaking to Stephen Colbert during a recent visit to “The Late Show,” Olsen said it’s “ridiculous” that she’s done a majority of her own Marvel stunts as Scarlet Witch. “Your stomach leaves you. It’s like, I guess, the joy people get on roller coasters, which I don’t get, but people love that feeling,” Olsen said about doing her own stunts. “I’ve definitely recovered from my giddiness. Sometimes I’m just like, ‘Okay, how many more of these do you want? I can do this all day’ kind of thing. But sometimes I get a little freaked out.”

Jake Gyllenhaal took on the wings of death in the “Hot Ones” Season 20 finale Thursday, and — after jokingly questioning who would use a toothpick during the process — walked back his comment when he found out it was Elizabeth Olsen. After a middle-of-the-road sauce with a Mermaid on its label, Gyllenhaal drew attention to the toothpicks and wet napkins available for use beside his chicken wing platter. He competitively refused to use either one, humorously dragging any “a–hole” who’d done so before him.“What a–hole used a f–kin’ toothpick?” the “Covenant” star asked, incredulously.

After snagging the Golden Globe and Critics Choice Awards earlier this year, you’d assume that Evan Peters is the frontrunner to take the Emmy Award for his role in Netflix’s blockbuster streaming hit “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.” And the Television Academy has already demonstrated its love for the Ryan Murphy mainstay after he took the Supporting Actor trophy in this field for “Mare of Easttown” in 2021.
Zack Sharf Digital News Director One of the biggest announcements to emerge out of Star Wars Celebration was the return of Daisy Ridley as Rey in a new movie that will follow the events of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” which concluded the most recent Skywalker trilogy in 2019. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (“Ms. Marvel”) is directing the still-untitled Rey movie from a script by Steven Knight (“Peaky Blinders”). Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said at the fan convention that Ridley’s new “Star Wars” movie will follow Rey as she builds a new Jedi Order, but the executive teased a bit more about the plot in an interview with IGN: “Star Wars” fans will pick up with Rey well over a decade after “The Rise of Skywalker.”

In a shock announcement, Netflix has confirmed they have cancelled its hit show Sex/Life after just two series. The series, which was inspired by the novel 44 Chapters About 4 Men by B.B. Easton, became a huge success after it launched on the streaming service in 2021 with creator Stacy Rukeyser previously sharing hopes for a third series. There is only one stone-cold lock for a nomination in this year’s Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie category. That would be for Jessica Chastain‘s SAG Award-winning turn as Tammy Wynette in “George and Tammy.” After that, well, this is one Emmy race that gets very interesting, very quickly.
