Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford are set to be interviewed in the ITV Phillip Schofield probe after the GB News presenter branded the situation a 'cover up'.
Jane Mulcahy KC is leading an external review of the facts after Schofield's departure from This Morning and ITV, which is expected to be completed in September. Schofield, 61, left This Morning after reports emerged about a feud between him and Holly Willoughby, 42, before later admitting to an affair with a younger colleague and cutting ties with ITV.
Eamonn became one of Schofield and ITV's harshest critics, branding the entire situation a 'cover up'. He also said the disgraced presenter created a 'toxic work environment'. Eamonn and Ruth, both 63, hosted on Fridays for 15 years until 2021 and will be involved in the external review.
Following Schofield's bombshell statement confirming the 'unwise, but not illegal' affair with a younger male colleague Eamonn appeared on Dan Wootton's TalkTV show. Eamonn said: "It's an illusion, it's an illusion," as Dan asked: "Isn't it a cover-up?"
"It's a total cover-up," Eamonn claimed. "Those in authority had to know what was going on and they thought they would dodge a bullet with this, and they do constantly.
"With Schofield talking about 'those who speak out against him' namely me, Amanda Holden, [Dan Wootton], you'll be included in the toxicity, Dr Ranj...you simply think, 'No mate, you've had it all your way for far too long.'"
He claimed Schofield created a “toxic” work environment and “an atmosphere where people hated him”. It was reported by The Sun that Eamonn was yet to be interviewed as part of the review, but a source told The Mirror that was "not true".
