Jim Duffy insists that the SPFL can't dish out a mid-season points deduction to Dundee if he clash with Rangers is called off.
But he admits the governing body may be forced to take action at the end of the campaign and rewrite their rule book with four games at Dens Park already postponed this season - and last Saturday's clash with Motherwell surviving the torrential rain after two pitch inspections. Philippe Clement's men is looking to take his side top of the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday night - but the clash on Tayside faces an 11am pitch inspection amid a Met Office weather warning for rain.
With a fifth postponement of the season on the cards, some pundits and fans have floated a potential punishment from the league should the clash with Rangers fail to beat the weather. But former Dundee boss Duffy played down the prospect at this stage of the season - but warned they might not get away with a series of call-offs next season.
Speaking to Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Duffy said: “I don’t agree that they should be taking points off Dundee or any other team, or any team for that matter. There can be games called off at many different points of the season for weather.
"Normally it is before April, but it can be. If it’s January or February you can’t just say ‘we will take points off you’ - it could be freakish weather. You can’t just decide to thrown in a rule that takes points off you now. If at the start of the season maybe but it’s very difficult, how would you word it? Because there are mitigating circumstances.
