Kieran Culkin Begs Claire Danes to ‘Stop Making Me Cry So Much’ as They Discuss ‘Fleishman,’ ‘Succession’ Creator’s Season 5 Pitch and More

Kieran Culkin and Claire Danes worked together on Burr Steers’ 2002 indie “Igby Goes Down,” in which Culkin played the angst-ridden 17-year-old title character to Danes’ slightly older Manhattan socialite Sookie Sapperstein. All these years later, Danes is visibly pregnant, and they chat like old pals about the difficulty of naming her third child with Hugh Dancy. “‘Cyrus,’ we came to pretty readily. ‘Rowan,’ we had to fight harder for. This one is impossible,” she says. “I realized the movie you and I did together is over half of our lives ago,” Culkin says.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor on heading for the Top 10 with new album HANA: "It feels a lot sweeter now"

Sophie Ellis-Bextor isn't just UK pop royalty. After she raised our flagging spirits during lockdown with her Kitchen Disco livestreams – an endearingly chaotic mix of her own hits and classic cover versions – she has pretty much attained national treasure status.

Something’s Rotten In The State Of Denmark: Nordic Noir Nation Has Seen A Commissioning Freeze Nightmare Morph Into A Streaming Levy Struggle

“Something is rotten in the state of Denmark,” or so the Shakespeare line goes. Since the start of 2022, the infamous Hamlet phrase feels apt when one considers the state of the country’s renowned TV and film industry, a sector that originated such Nordic noir classics as The Killing and Borgen.

‘The Porter’ Producer Jennifer Kawaja on Sphere Media’s Slate, WGA Strike Impact

Amber Dowling Last April, Sphere Media took the Canadian Screen Awards by storm with 22 awards for its scripted content, including a record 12 wins for the historical Black drama “The Porter” and seven for queer comedy “Sort Of.” It was a big night for Canada’s third-largest independent producer, and in particular for Jennifer Kawaja, Sphere’s president of scripted and feature films for English Canada. Previously, Kawaja spent decades heading up Sienna Films with her business partner, Julia Sereny, helming several award-winning projects like “Cardinal,” “Trickster” and “One Dead Indian.” The duo sold the company to Kew Media Group in 2017 and in 2020, Montreal-based Datsit Sphere snatched it up when Kew was placed into receivership. Last year, Sphere restructured and rebranded under a single banner with the intention of streamlining content creation, production and distribution.

Tony-Nominated ‘Parade’ Director and Production Designer on How Political Rallies and Jan. 6 Inspired the Show’s Set

Jazz Tangcay Artisans Editor Broadway designer Dane Laffrey and director Michael Arden often dive into conversations about projects long before a show is greenlit. Says Laffrey, who is nominated for best scenic design for “A Christmas Carol,” “We are extensively consistent collaborators.” Having worked on shows including “Once on This Island” and the Broadway revival of “Parade” — about the lynching of Jewish American Leo Frank in 1915 — the two often discuss visual research and organizing space through “snatches of conversations.” For “Parade,” which earned Arden a Tony nod for best direction of a musical, the duo was looking at visual reference points and political rallies from the period. Says Laffrey, “We looked at grandstands or viewing stands, and things that were constructed hastily. There were also contemporary reference points from Jan. 6, touch points that mean something to us because then they will mean something to an audience.”

‘Last Summer’ Review: Catherine Breillat’s Scandal-Courting Drama Draws Yawns

Cannes Film Festival, where Catherine Breillat’s scandal-courting transgression drama mostly inspired yawns.More inert than inept, “Last Summer” arrived in Cannes with fraught expectations: This is Breillat’s first film in a decade and a faithful remake of May el-Toukhy’s acclaimed “Queen of Hearts” — and within the Venn diagram of cinephiles who impatiently awaited Breillat’s follow-up to 2013’s “Abuse of Weakness,” and journalists who reviewed and celebrated that 2019 Danish drama you could probably fit the entire Palais.Like a cover song that follows the same notes but changes the emphasis, “Last Summer” tracks a high-powered juvenile rights attorney who begins a taboo fling with her underage stepson. The lawyer here is Anne (Léa Drucker, from “Custody”), a content and aloof mother of two who dulls her mid-life boredoms with wine.
