Coronation Street's leading ladies have had a mini reunion 24 years after their former co-star left the popular ITV show. Denise Welch, who played Natalie Barnes from 1997 to 2000, was excited to catch up with fellow Corrie stars Sally Dynevor, Jane Danson, Samia Longchambon and Angela Lonsdale, the latter having portrayed police officer Emma Watts.
For their star-studded reunion, the fabulous five spent quality time at the posh Smoke restaurant in Wilmslow, Cheshire enjoying their lunch and reminiscing about old times.
Taking to Instagram to share their happy reunion, Denise penned: "Always happy to be back with my girls." Angela, who graced the cobbles between 2000 and 2003, humorously responded: "Now that's what ya call a Girl Gang! " Jane, who has been enchanting audiences since 1997 with her portrayal of Leanne Battersby captioned: "Always happy to be back with you," followed by a red love heart emoji. Denise delighted viewers as the mum of Tony Horrocks and co-owner of MVB Motors, taking over as the landlady of the Rovers Return during her stint on Corrie.
But her journey wasn't devoid of pitfalls, fighting battles against depression and addictions to alcohol and drugs behind the scenes, reports the Mirror. In a candid chat back in 2022, Denise opened up to The Sun about her struggles during her time on Coronation Street, saying: "My drinking really started to be a problem during the Coronation Street times.
I had always loved a party. But that was getting p***ed on a Saturday night and feeling rough on a Sunday.
I didn't have a problem. When I was doing Corrie it was watched by 21million people an episode.
That is a third of the country.
There is a lot of f***ing pressure on you for that.
The schedule was unforgiving.
