Coronation Street fans praised the show for its return to 'proper Corrie humour' in scenes that left some "crying with laughter". With the future of the famous Rovers Return at stake, Monday night's episode opened with Jenny and Daisy planning an event to impress the Newtons from the brewery.
They were gutted when a croaky Glenda revealed she had lost her voice but she called in a "more than adequate replacement" in the form of "legend" Glyn Young. It didn't look promising when an elderly man with a hearing aid arrived and agreed he would be better after a nap.
But Glyn then "pulled a Susan Boyle" according to fan @Meena_jutla on Twitter and led the pub in an impressive sing-a-long. The performance didn't end well after Glenda was overheard on a mic complaining about the Newtons and Glyn suffered an angina attack - but viewers were impressed.
