Coronation Street fans have found themselves fearing the worst as they think they have uncovered how Peter Barlow will exit Weatherfield. It was confirmed by actor Chris Gascoyne that he'll be leaving the role on the ITV soap meaning a departure for Peter from the cobbles.
The actor is famed for playing Peter on the cobbles on and off for 23 years. However, Corrie fans will this year see Peter leave Weatherfield. Chris first appeared as Peter in 2000 during Corrie's 40th anniversary live episode.
He then left the role in 2003 and returned in 2007 for a brief stint before returning full-time in 2008. In January 2014 it was confirmed that Chris would be leaving once again, but the following year he did reprise the role for two episodes for the funeral of Deirdre Barlow, played by Anne Kirkbride.

It was then revealed in 2016 that Peter would be making a return to Weatherfield with Chris remaining in the role ever since. But his latest planned exit, albeit not looking set to be a permanent one, was confirmed by the actor to Metro.co.uk. He said that Peter Barlow ‘is very close to his heart,’ with a Coronation Street spokesperson confirming to the publication that the door is 'left open.'
And following his latest appearance on the soap on Friday night (August 11), fans are concerned they know how he'll leave. Viewers know that Stephen Reid is desperately trying to stop Lou Donahue, the widow of businessman Rufus, from doing any digging that may reveal he is the one who killed her husband.
During the last trip to the cobbles this week, Stephen was seen struggling at Rufus' memorial, particularly as he spoke to and heard a speech
