A pub operator championing local communities has won a prestigious award naming it the best of its kind across the country.
Proper Pubs was crowned the Best Community Pub Operator at the Publican Awards 2024 last week and was recognised for bringing people together through its pubs and for raising money for local charities.
The operator, which has more than 200 pubs across England, Scotland and Wales, is behind a number of community pubs across Greater Manchester including The Town Hall Tavern in Oldham and the Lord Nelson in Gorton.

Other Proper Pubs across Greater Manchester include Swinton’s The Church Inn, Elliots in Tyldesley, the Thatched Tavern in Stockport, the Bricklayers Arms in Failsworth, Strawberry Gardens in Droylsden, and the Jolly Crofter in Stockport.
It is the first time the pub company has been recognised with the prize at The Publican Awards, which are regarded as a leading benchmark for operators within the UK pub industry. Winners are decided through a judging process that includes pub visits, interviews and a panel session with industry experts.
The operator particularly impressed judges with its defibrillator campaign, which saw the life-saving devices installed outside all of its pubs. It’s thought the campaign has helped save 11 lives up and down the country.
During the last year, its pubs have also raised more than £100,000 for local charities and community initiatives whilst they also actively run events to bring local residents together.
