Ryan Gosling Says ‘The Notebook’ Director Told Him: ‘You Have No Natural Leading Man Qualities’

Zack Sharf Digital News Director With Warner Bros.’ “Barbie” and Universal’s giant action tentpole “The Fall Guy” on the way, Ryan Gosling remains one of Hollywood’s most in-demand leading men. But that wasn’t always the case. The Oscar nominee recently told GQ magazine that his rise to leading man got its start because he landed his first few roles on the belief that he wasn’t leading man material to begin with. Gosling’s acting breakthrough came in 2001 with his leading role in Henry Bean’s “The Believer,” in which he played a Jewish kid from New York who becomes a Neo-Nazi. Gosling is none of these, but he said “the fact that I wasn’t really right for it was exactly why [Henry] thought I was right for it.” The actor got similar feedback when he went to audition for “The Notebook,” Nick Cassavetes’ 2004 Nicholas Sparks adaptation that turned Gosling and co-star Rachel McAdams into romance icons.

Strong Studios to Develop ‘Hall Mills Murders’ Series Based on Love Affair of a New Jersey Priest (EXCLUSIVE)

McKinley Franklin editor Strong Studios is set to develop a new crime series “Hall Mills Murders,” based on the chilling 1922 murder case that swarmed American culture, Variety has learned.  The eight-episode series will spotlight the murders of Edward Wheeler Hall, an N.J. priest, and Eleanor Millis, Hall’s mistress. However, it was quickly uncovered that the lovers were murdered, with their love notes shredded at their feet.  “We are thrilled to announce that the ‘Hall Mills Murders’ project will allow Strong Studios to significantly ramp up our production pipeline,” stated David Ozer, CEO of Strong Studios. “This sordid story and murder trial led to a three-ring media circus that is recognized to this day as the first of its kind in America to saturate news coverage on a daily basis. We know audiences are fascinated by true crime, and given this is the story that started it all, we have no doubt it will generate interest among broadcasters and streamers, and most definitely with audiences when we premiere.”

Ben Affleck Says His Daughter Gave Him the 'Best Review' on New Thriller 'Hypnotic' (Exclusive)

Ben Affleck got good notes on his new film,, from some of his harshest critics — his kids!«My kids constantly make fun of me, and they won't watch any of my movies, but I showed them some clips from this and my daughter was like, 'That actually looks kind of interesting!'» the actor and director admitted in ET's exclusive look behind-the-scenes of the upcoming thriller. «So I thought that was the best review that I could get, and I hope audiences come away from it having really enjoyed the movie.»Affleck shares three kids with his ex wife, Jennifer Garner — Violet, 17, Seraphina, 14, and Samuel, 11 — but when it comes to, that's the brainchild of writer-director Robert Rodriguez, who wrote the first pass of the script all the way back in 2002.The film stars Affleck as Austin police detective Danny Rourke, who goes searching for his abducted daughter only to uncover a secret government division of «hypnotics,» powerful hypnotists trained to control people's minds. An acclaimed director himself, Affleck praised Rodriguez's «bold» style in the thriller, noting that he used directorial techniques from both modern and classic suspense films to craft a movie that feels like «old fashioned filmmaking, that relied on the story and told the story in a certain style.»«He really wanted to do a kind of homage to Hitchcock,» he continued.
