Fashion house Chanel has shared the first details about it's ultra-exclusive catwalk show being held in Manchester city centre this week. And it includes clues to the iconic Manchester bands, moments and a certain club that may have inspired it.
The luxury French designer brand is staging an extraordinary takeover of Northern Quarter streets to bring its Métiers d'Art show to life in Manchester for the first time on Thursday, December 7. The event has been shrouded in secrecy, with many of the businesses and creatives involved signing confidentiality agreements not to speak about any of the details.
But the huge structures being set up along Thomas Street and High Street in the Northern Quarter have been something of a giveaway to the location. So far the fashion label has not stated the reasons why Manchester was chosen for its exclusive annual event, which last year was held in Dakar, Senegal.

But on Saturday night, Chanel issued its first messages about the event on its social media pages. They give some hints for the first time of the inspiration Manchester has had for the event - and what we might expect at the runway show.
Posting on Instagram stories to Chanel's 59million worldwide followers, the first picture was captioned: "Chanel 2023/2024 Métiers d'Art show - MCR".
In the background is a collage of images in oranges and blacks. The distinctive striped lines design of the Hacienda nighctlub can clearly be seen, as well as images of revellers at a rave, suggesting the legendary Manchester venue may provide some inspiration.
