Box Office: ‘Haunted Mansion’ Makes $3.1 Million in Previews, but ‘Barbenheimer’ Stays Strong

Instead, they’ll get a chance to witness a 75-foot-long megalodon, and other sea creatures who prefer human flesh to plankton, make short work of a group of scientists.

Despite a strong opening for “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem”, the plastic-and-pink “Barbie” remains the crowned winner of Wednesday night’s box office.

That foe would be the collective force of “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer,” which have spent the past week putting box office projections to shame. “Barbenheimer,” as the inextricably linked movies have been nicknamed, will loom large over North American charts as Disney’s new family film aims for third place.

After five days of release, the inextricably linked “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” have reached notable theatrical milestones, with ticket sales for Greta Gerwig’s fantasia romp crossing $200 million and Christopher Nolan’s somber, three-hour biopic “Oppenheimer” surpassing $100 million. “Barbie” added another $26 million on Tuesday, bringing its North American tally to $214.1 million.

We knew Warner Bros’ Barbie and Universal’s Oppenheimer were going to be big, but not this big.

The Haunted Mansion is a dark ride attraction located at Disneyland, Magic Kingdom, and Tokyo Disneyland. The ride is set in a large, creaky mansion that is rumored to be haunted by the ghosts of its former residents. Riders are led through a series of rooms, each of which is decorated with creepy props and features a different ghostly encounter. Some of the most famous scenes in the ride include the Ballroom, where a group of ghosts are dancing, the Conservatory, where a casket floats in mid-air, and Madame Leota’s Séance Room, where a disembodied head floats in a crystal ball. Someone at Disney decided this was enough substance to turn this into a feature film. Not sure why.
