Grateful Bojan Miovski ended his long run without a goal - before raving about what Aberdeen have done for his career.
The North Macedonia striker hadn't scored in eight games before his side drew with Moldova on Friday but that came to an end on the stroke of half-time with a cheeky finish to put his team in front. He also started Monday's narrow 1-0 defeat to Montenegro as his country have kept the faith in him despite his struggling form at club level.
Calling it a poor season is a stretch, granted, as he still has 22 in 44 appearances for Aberdeen this season taking his total to 40 in 86 since his 2022 move from MTK Budapest. Prior to his move to Scotland, he hadn't started a single game for his country - but nowadays he's one of the first names on the teamsheet. And he knows who he has to thank.
Speaking to local media after their defeat on Monday, Miovski said: “I really appreciate it that Aberdeen gave me the opportunity to be where I am now in the national team. Aberdeen has helped me a lot as I was not a starting player when I was in Hungary.
"When I signed for Aberdeen and started to perform well and score goals I got that opportunity to be first choice in the national team. And get that number nine.”
Miovski has now wrapped things up with his country and his attentions turn to the Premiership which gets back underway for the Dons on Saturday. They host Ross County looking to put further distance between themselves and the relegation zone, though it remains to be seen if they will announce their next manager in time for that one. Reports suggest that will come early this week with the shortlist whittled down to three.
