Outlander author Diana Gabaldon has garnered huge success following the release of her book franchise Outlander which was adapted for the small screen by Starz.
The award-winning writer, has avidly supported the historical romance being adapted into a television series, but many are unaware of her life before books hit shelves.
Now, the star has set herself up for life with the global success of her novels, but has also boosted the careers of protagonists Caitriona Balfe and Scots actor Sam Heughan who plays Claire and Jamie.

But where did it all begin, and what was Diana 's life like away from writing books?
The author was always keen to be a novelist from the age of eight, however, life got in the way and she didn't pen her first novel until the age of 35.
Her mother was the inspiration behind her writing, adding that after that she “never stopped.”
Inspired by a young man wearing a kilt on the BBC science fiction series “Doctor Who,” she decided to set her story in Scotland.
Since she was a researcher and couldn’t afford an overseas trip to check on her setting, Diana figured the easiest type of novel for this first attempt would be historical fiction, as she could find all the historical information she needed in books.
“I could see what I had was a fish-out-of-water story—a stranger in a strange land,” she said.
Before trying a novel-length manuscript, she wrote stories about Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Uncle Scrooge, and other characters for Disney.
She even wrote a comic book, Nutrition Adventures with Orange Bird for the entertainment behemoth.
