Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) made a dramatic return to Albert Square, alongside her son Louie Beale, with fans quick to notice that the youngster has been recast. Last year Louie appeared as part of Cindy Beale's (Michelle Collins) return, as it emerged that she was living in France with husband Ian (Adam Woodyatt) and son Peter (Thomas Law), who is Louie's father. In this storyline, the eight year old was played by Freddie Harrington, but now Jake McNally is in the role.
Jake joined EastEnders after attended acting lessons at the Jacqueline Jossa academy. Noticing the recast, viewers took to X, formerly Twitter, with one writing: "have they recasted louie again lol #eastenders" To which another fan confirmed that was the case, adding: "obsessed with the other louie just getting to work in ‘france’ with cindy beale for one ep and never again" And Louie isn't the only returning character to have been recast, as he arrived alongside Penny Branning (Kitty Castledine), who was previously seen played by Mia McKenna-Bruce. Louie's dad Peter has also been played by a number of different actors, with Thomas Law playing the role from 2006 until 2010, with Ben Hardy and Dayle Hudson later taking on the role, before Thomas's return last year.
Lauren, Penny, and Louie's return to Walford has not gone entirely to plan, with Lauren being arrested at the airport after drugs were found in her luggage. However, it appears that the drugs were planted there by her cousin, who, in her years away from the square, has become involved in drug smuggling. Discussing her return to the show, and the differences between Lauren and Penny, Jacqueline said: "It's so great.
