EastEnders writer Daran Little has responded to fans upset about Max Bowden's character Ben Mitchell's shocking exit. It was confirmed by the BBC that actor Max, who has played the role of Ben since 2019, will be leaving EastEnders next year. His last scenes are expected to air in the next few weeks with his departure reportedly leaving the show's bosses unsure whether to keep the character of Ben Mitchell in the soap at all.
A spokesperson for the BBC told OK!: "Max will be leaving EastEnders next year. We wish him all the best for the future." Following the news, BAFTA-winning writer Daran took to X, formerly known as Twitter after a backlash from viewers. He said: "I'm blocking those who accuse me of hating EE characters.
We spend our time coming up with stories and characters, creating balance, listening to viewers and trying to keep a 38-year-old soap fresh and relevant." He went on saying: "It's the best it's been for years. Honoured & proud to be part of it!" However, not everyone agreed with this decision as one unhappy fan stated: "Blocking people for calling you out is a bit immature is it not? This is arguably the best actor you've had to play Ben. His character has become one that so many resonate with, through Max, but because of his 'personal life' you decide to axe him, then can't handle the backlash." Opinions were divided over Max's departure from the show, with some dubbing it "ridiculous" and "the worst thing possible".
Meanwhile, someone stood up for the soap's creators, commenting: "In fairness to any soap writer... I have lived on our current street for 23 years. "No plans to move.
Some families have come and gone. Some have also stayed. Some drove off in taxis, some left in a box.
